Smart Mouth Guard: Sensing Cavity Formation (NYU)

An exciting project that I had been involved in was in collaboration with Indiana University School of Dentistry during my time as a research assistant at NYUAD. We collaborated to design a smart implantable mouth guard which will be used to detect cavity formation by detection of specific ions and pH levels of the Buccal Cavity. My responsibilities in this project involved the development of the electrode interface for pH-sensing and a PCB for the sake of in-vitro characterization. The PCB was designed in Altium Designer and was fabricated to be used as a portable Potentiostat with the use of an Arduino. It was tested to successfully sense Calcium and PH levels under body conditions.
